Had a rather horrible argument with hubby last night, so in a moment of 'hhmph' I decided to take myself shopping this afternoon. Of course, this took me to Oxford Street (not necessarily London's nicest shopping area due to it being probably one of the busiest, but it has everything you want). Invested in a couple of Dan Brown books (after the D.V. Code, I'm hooked), and the Talented Mr Ripley, which is one of the best stories ever (IMO).

Also stopped by Paperchase (my favourite shop!) and bought yet another couple of notebooks, well you can never have enough can you...I think my love of all things stationery stems from those "first day of term" times, when it was a treat to buy a new matching set of notebook, folder, pencil case and matching pencils, pens and obiligatory smelly rubber.

Ah come on postman! I remember the good old days when the post came before you left for school!

I'm just waiting for Mr Postman to arrive with my Amazon goodies... bought Il Postino on DVD, purely for the fact that it was filmed on the island we stayed on for our honeymoon, so we can have a reminisce about that... plus 2 books for beginner to 'teach yourself' jazz piano, my next little project. I have never played the piano properly (always struggled with that 2-hand co-ordination business), but had to pick it up for A-level music when you had to do composition on the piano.

Something (hopefully) interesting will be happening here in October... watch this space...

Flu is subsiding, so in the meantime, I have been doing a little thinking around this year's NaNoWriMo. Might write a mystery / crime book, about a serial killer. Not many further ideas as of yet to be honest, but we do have another month to complete the planning! Seems like this book will be a detective story, so I am going to start reading a Rebus novel (new to me) to get some good pointers. Anyone else going to join in?

Wow... just finished reading Shutter Island, and I can honestly say it's one of the best books I've ever read. It's like one of those films where at the very end you are perplexed as to what has actually happened, and are left hanging, trying to work it out for yourself... Fabulous. Everyone should read it.

Off sick with the cold from hell. Not getting much sympathy from hubby, so off to have a hot bath and try to finish the book...

Mod or Rocker?

Well, the blog facelift is now complete, and it feels goooood. And now I've fixed the comments system, you can tell me what you think!

Hubby and I are thinking of getting his'n'hers scooters (well not quite, but one each anyway). I think that trip to Sicily has rubbed off - the swarm of Vespas everywhere you turn has given us the idea I think. Need to find somewhere that sells decent used scooters in the London area (any suggestions? especially nice Vespas!) plus need to find out where does that CBT course... quite looking forward to it! Big benefit is that, unlike a car, scooters are exempt from the lovely congestion charge, plus it's less knackering and way cooler than cycling (urgh all that lycra!).

Have decided not to do the exam for the Open University course... have enjoyed the course, but realistically have only 10 proper days in which to revise, a serious lack of motivation and a desire to concentrate on other things (like babies, scooters, and NaNoWriMo!). So the college books are going under the bed, for once and for all. Aah.

Just trying out a bit of a facelift...

Made a rather tasty lunch, even if I do say so myself. Did a load of veg in the griddle pan (for that char-grill taste) and then had them in toasted pitta breads with philadelphia in. Yum.

My new favourite website .

On the repeated recommendation of Fat Buddha, I am reading a Dennis Lehane book, and rather gripping it is too.

Ooh - a new yoga centre has opened about 10mins walk from my house. £10 per class, pretty reasonable as well. Might be a possible candidate for my custom, once my gym membership lapses at the end of October!

Oh, and is anyone else thinking of doing this again this year?

Post-Holiday Blues

Well, I'm back... had a fabulous time. Weather was hot Hot HOT! About 30 degrees every day, unfortunately only going down to about 24 at night. However, due to my being a bit over-zealous with the Factor 30, I have little in the way of a colour change.

Salina is a beautiful small island off the northern coast of Sicily. The island is very quiet, there being not much in the way of nighlife, and pretty much everything is closed by 10pm. However, there were a few nice restaurants, and some fabulous scenery to take in. The best ways to see the island that we found were to hire a "machinetta", a sort of 2-seater scooter (I even had a go at driving it! which was rather nerve-wracking, since Sicily has the world's worst roads and drivers), and also hiring a boat to do a lap of the island. The boat we hired was little more than an oversized dinghy with an engine and a steering wheel, which hubby loved... think it's a boy-wants-to-be-James-Bond blokie thing... The boat trip got a bit scary when we encountered some larger-than-expected waves, and being nothing in sight but the sea and some rather craggy cliffs (no other boats or people visible on the coastline), I have to say I was a bit scared! However, we passed through that bit and found a nice quiet coast with lots of yachts and caught some sun from there.

More writing (and photos too when Hotmail allows me to upload them!) to follow... suffice it to say that we had a truly fabulous holiday, lots of relaxation, peace and quiet.

Until the 15th September, I can be found here, enjoying much sun, sea, and fabulous wine. Ciao for now...

Oh, and I'm a peacemaker apparently... [via Billy]

Well, we did it! I am now officially Mrs H. A few photos can be seen here. Had a truly fabulous day... registry office do was lovely, and longer that we thought! Then we had a little trip round the Aquarium (unusual for a wedding, I know!) and then on to the restaurant in the evening. Didn't go to the Hispaniola in the end, as hubby's sea-legs weren't up to it!

Just waiting for Monday when we fly out to Sicily!
