What can it mean? I just clicked the wrong button to try to shut down the internet, and I got an unexpected window... this sparked a song to start playing in my head....
shareef don’t like it, lock the taskbar, lock the taskbar
God, am I going mad?

Tomorrow is almost upon us! Actually feel quite nervous... I think it's the prospect of being the centre of attention all day that is more nerve-wracking, rather than the actual wedding bit (even though there's only going to be 7 of us there). Parents are arriving this afternoon... more sight-seeing and general dashing around will ensue no doubt. Right! next time I update this I'll be a married woman... so long singledom!

I'm done in!

After a very long week at work, I am now off until the 20th September... that's a glorious 22 days off, folks. Ruddy marvellous! Thanks to billy and everyone who sent kind wishes for the Big Day (Wed). So now I have 2 days til The Parents arrive (mine, that is), 2 days to clean the flat, and somehow fit in meeting up with an old mate tomorrow (who I haven't seen for 3 years, so tons to catch up on), having a pre-wedding 'do' on Monday night, sorting out The Spots situation (face pack is mandatory aargh!), and generally chilling before the Big Day. Phew. Im tired just thinking about it.

Have sort of finished the essay, although it's not quite "hand-in-able" at the minute, but I can finish it off properly Friday. Instead of doing it today, got distracted on e-bay and spent far too much money on Benefit make-up (for the wedding!).

have now booked the restaurant for the wedding meal! One girl at work said her dad proposed to her mum on that boat, so hopefully that's a good sign!

Working like a dog for the next 2 days, so no updates til after that...

Sunday, August 22, 2004

A mere 10 days to go til the wedding, and 15 days til the holiday to Sicily. Just thought I'd point that out, as a close friend of mine who reads here says she thought I was being super-organised and was planning the wedding for NEXT September! No, lady, it's soon!!

Excitement is setting in! Unfortunately, while I'm there, I'm going to have to do some revision for the exam, which is on the 11th October ... as I haven't even finished the last essay yet, and that won't leave much time for revising. Still, I intend to do some relaxing holiday reading as well - everyone seems to be raving about that Da Vinci Code book, so that might be a possible must-take.

Still need to finish off the shopping for a) the wedding (yes, leaving it a bit late, I know), and b) the holiday... things still left to buy include: wedding jewellery and handbag, sarong, beach towels, holiday reading matter, shirt and tie for hubby's wedding outfit (yes, I know..I have been "mentioning" it for ages!), and possibly some flip-flops. Hmm.. time is running out!

Time is flying folks. What have I done in the last few days? have looked after a psychotic woman who stabbed her mother the previous evening (nice)... have paid just short of fifty quid for a haircut (aargh!)... been left in charge at work on the busiest day in history (well, it felt like it!) ... and have done absolutely NO studying for my course in the last 2 weeks...

Over the weekend I need to get stuck into the last essay of the course, and also try to arrange going for coffee with a friend who I haven't seen in three years.

More to come later...

Back at work on days tomorrow, and I'm in charge again aargh! only for the afternoon tho, so not too bad.. lets's live in hope for another quiet one!

Didn't meet up with my friend today.. everytime I arrange to meet her, there's always something which crops up to stop us from meeting. Getting a bit annoying now.. it's over a year since I've seen her.

Have had quite a productive day - went to the gym, went to the supermarket, and tidied the flat for a couple of hours. Tonight I will catch up on some telly I think, and have an early night...

Bored?Take my Quiz! and then Check out the Scoreboard!

Had a nice day today - went to the British Museum with a mate, and then went to Wagamama for a nice green curry. Followed by a trip to The Boyfriend's bar for a coulpe of drinks. V.nice. Having a busy week this week really meeting up with another friend tomorrow who I haven't seen in ages (she's in the police and also works crap shifts), so that'll be good. Also,at the weekend am planning to meet up with another friend who I haven't seen in over three years. Must be reunion week or something.

There must be something in the air.. just as I was thinking this site's not getting any readers / comments any more, and I don't have anything interesting to say these days, then Billy goes and writes the very same thing. I never intended for this blog to be a "diary", but more of a "compendium of links" and interesting stories. I guess I'm just a bit bored with it. And when you think you're the only one who reads it, then what's the point. Maybe if I had a sister-blog, about something totally different (? like what tho... books? done before... london? done before)... aah. Need to get me thinking cap on...

Nights going pretty quickly so far, which is always good. Tonight is the night... I am in charge of a 25-bedded ward. When I was a student, I always enjoyed the 'management' shifts I did, so let's hope this is the same!

Today's Italian phrase is caldo, calda which means hot.

Wednesday, August 11, 2004

Mmm on nights again... and can somebody please tell why the hell it's so busy?! We didn't have time to breathe for the first 6 or 7 hours of my shift last night. Unfortunately, I got stuck with one of my patients, an elderly lady who, whilst attempting to use the commode, kept on trying to hand me err "heavily soiled" shall we say pieces of toilet paper. Needless to say it ended up all over her hands, and all over the floor, and she almost put her hands all over my dress, but luckily I managed to dodge out of the way. Nice. Just what you want at half one in the morning.

Hubby's still in Wales. While I've been slogging my guts out, he has had barely any customers at all. Don't keep sending those texts saying "we've still got no customers in" while I am up to the eyes in sh*te matey!!

Today's Italian phrase is un caffè which means coffee, something which, when on nights, I wished I could drink.

In the style of the Great Kosovan Adventure, I will attempt to learn a new word of Italian a day leading up to the Great Sicilian Adventure! [idea via]

Starting to plan things we might do on holiday... one thing I fancy doing is taking a tour up to the top of a live volcano on the island of Stromboli. They take you up in the evening so you get the full "lava-glow" effect! Sounds a bit scary, but a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Today's word is Prego? which means "what would you like?"

The Big Decision...

Well, I have spent the last few days, pondering, thinking and stewing... and have decided that I will put my "career" plans on hold for the time being and try to start a family. After all, I am in a fairly good job, and all the assistant psychologist jobs I was going for pay less than what I get now. Plus I've been in my job a year, which makes me eligible for maternity pay and all of that... so that's that! I have the rest of my life to do courses and job-hunting! To be honest, the thought of having some free time after I finish this course in October is quite appealing, as I haven't read any good novels in ages.

So I am off to look for folic acid tablets this afternoon! It's all a bit scary, but quite exciting!

Monday, August 02, 2004

Have booked the holiday, flights and hotel... getting quite excited now! Especially when I learned that we will be going on a boat that "flies"!! Apparently they're called "hydrofoils", but I've never heard of them! Looks interesting tho...

Tried to get a doctor's appointment, but rather inconveniently she is on holiday for two weeks! Cheeky!

I was just reading back through my archives (as one does) and saw that this time last year (or thereabouts) was a blog craze known as "interview me"... so I thought I'd try to resurrect it... Here are the rules, for those who can't remember:

1. Leave a comment, saying you want to be interviewed.
2. I will respond; I'll ask you five questions.
3. You'll update your website with my five questions, and your five answers.
4. You'll include this explanation.
5. You'll ask other people five questions when they want to be interviewed.

So anyone who wants to partake, please leave a comment and your 5 questions if you want to ....

That Planning for Emergencies leaflet (sort of).

I think I may have IBS. Have had a "dicky tum" for what must be months now, on and off. My dad has it, and it certainly sounds pretty similar. Will make doctor's appointment today I think. This website was quite helpful. My abdomen currently feels like if i stick a pin in it, it will pop. A tad unconfortable you could say.

Feel like I have one million things to do today: need to confirm holiday to Sicily and pay for it (always helps), need to catch up with my friend for lunch, pick up a rather swish dress I ordered in Jigsaw (it's fab), go to health food shop for peppermint capsules (supposed to help dicky tums), fit some studying in somehow, and go to Post Office and Bank (more difficult than it sounds, being that I live in London, the capital city, where banks are in extremely short supply). Also need to sort out some wedding rings this week. Have spotted a couple of nice ones, but need hubby to have a look as well. OK not one million things exactly, but a fair few.
