My god, I went to bed at 8.30 last night to watch University Challenge, and then fell asleep around 9.30... rock'n'roll eh?

I made it to the supermarket yesterday.. but I bought MORE supernoodles! So the latest food addictions are supernoodles and jam (but not at the same time)... I went through a whole pot of jam last week, all by myself. What's happening to me?!!

And how annoying is this.. I was reading Mr Nice and only had about 50 pages left to go.. .but somehow I've managed to lose it! It's either on the Silverlink train between Homerton and Brondesbury Park... or it's lost in the depths of the hospital I work in. Either way, I will never get to know what happens to lovely Howard Marks in the American prison....if you find a stray copy, send it my way.

It's been a good couple of months since I had a haircut...but now it's starting to show. I normally go to the Toni & Guy Training Academy (cos it's dirt cheap!), but they only do it weekdays at certain times, and right now I am working Mon-Fri. Bummer. I suppose for the next two weeks I will just have to look like the hairy yeti of Queens Park.....

I really should go to the supermarket today; for the past few days I've been mostly eating Super Noodles. Not good. I kept on looking through my cupboards in a Ready-Steady-Cook style thinking if Ainsley can do it with five ingredients and 20mins why can't I? but then I realised I don't have five ingredients, apart from said Super Noodles.

When I read everyone else's blog, you all seem so busy... my life is rather dull in comparison (hence the lack of updates). H is flitting between Canada and Scotland, Cheeks has various "men's problems" (although there has been a noticeable absence in the past few days), and is crying at films, Eloon is living it up, Danny is taking photos of keyboards up trees (??).... lately I feel like all I do is bed and work. But it's only for a couple more weeks, and then I am FREE for at least one month! and then it all starts up again when I get my proper job... but at least then I will have some money to do stuff.... anyway, I'm off to do some yoga and then hit the supermarket. Yawn... or maybe I should just go back to bed!

Urban Spaces

I remember from my running days that London is the city with the most green spaces in the whole of Europe or something. I love london's parks, they are somewhere to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. When I worked in Selfridges (briefly) I managed to find a nice park behind Oxford Street, where I would go and chill out of a lunchtime. The big London parks are so different - Hampstead Heath is fairly wild, Regent's Park is very formal, Battersea Park has the lovely Buddhist peace pagoda... This summer I am going to make a conscious effort to re-discover London's green spaces! What's your favourite park?

Interesting find of the day: the Earth From the Air Exhibition at the Natural History Museum

Spent the afternoon in Paddington Recreation Ground in Maida Vale, where there was a free live jazz concert going on, as part of this Jazz on the Streets festival. Next Sunday there is going to be a 20-piece big band there, so I think I might tootle on down then as well. Apparently there's free jazz going on in Soho Square and other central London venues (Eg. Bar Italia) all this week. Fab!

I can't get this song out of my head: "Don't Mess With My Toot-Toot" and it's driving me insane!

Had a horrible dream last night – I dreamed that I was in this street (supposed to be in Hackney!) with 2 girls from work. The street was deserted, full of burnt-out cars and smoke. There was this hairy man wearing a black leather waist-coat, black t-shirt and black jeans (who looked a lot like this homeless guy who comes on my train asking people for money). The man went across the street to this car, and pulled out an Uzi-type gun. He started shooting everywhere, so me and the girls ran to hide behind a wall. We thought we were safe, but he came and pointed the gun at us. Then I noticed another Uzi-type gun lying on the floor, so I picked it up and tried to shoot him. Unfortunately, the gun turned out to be a toy and the man laughed. Then he had this feature on his gun where you could switch the type of bullets to ones that caused the victims more pain! I started shouting “No please don’t”… then I woke up! I wonder what that all means then....

One of the elderly (but not confused) patients on the ward said today (about me) that I am not skinny I'm "pleasantly rounded". What the hell does that mean?! Currently consoling myself with white chocolate chip cookies and crisps (I can sense I will become more rounded as time goes on).

Feeling sleepy but glad that I have the whole weekend off. Been pondering the possibility of doing an MSc through the Open University... they have some quite good courses going on there. I don't want a proper job... I want to be a student forever! But that won't pay my bills now will it. Bummer... life is so unfair!

Phew! It's ruddy hot here in London, not complaining tho, just makes a nice change! Decided to stay out of the sun for now, as I am still burnt from my outing to Hyde Park on Friday.

Nothing exciting is happening in my life...I am just applying for shit-loads of assistant psychology jobs (and filling in those application forms is like a job in itself), and working hard on the ward at work. Only 2 and a half weeks to go till I finish college/work placement THANK GOD! After that, no more night shifts, no more bedpans... can't wait!

Tonight I will be staying in listening to the Kings of Leon album, drinking wine. Ruddy marvellous!

There's something about hip-hop and garage music I just don't get. All that crotch-holding, shouting and trashy gold jewellery, it's all beyond me. I watched Top of the Pops for some reason tonight and managed to catch 50 Cent... now what is that all about then? I understand that fashions change and all that, but I dunno, I just don't get it. Now spandex catsuits, men with make-up and fright-wigs I get very much. Is it all just down to taste at the end of the day?

11 things within arm's reach:

1. Pepsi Max (see how good I am!)
2. TV remote
3. stereo
4. sunglasses from Topshop
5. a menthol sweet from Croatia called "Bronhi"
6. Spiritualized's "Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space" album
7. George Orwell's 1984
8. a guitar effects processor
9. desk calendar
10. four candles
11. a receipt from Dixons for a digital video camera

Currently feeling like death on a stick (but they don't have that at imood now do they?).

Still in the midst of a mini-careers crisis (number 768)...graduate in August from nursing... have nursing job lined up... but considering career in clinical psychology... applying for assistant psychology jobs as well...clinical psychology career would mean getting some experience first and then another 3 years study...but what to do? aargh.. big headache. I need a glass of wine! But didn't get up till 3.30pm, so technically that's like drinking in the late morning, which is not a good sign. I will endeavour to stick to the Pepsi Max...

Day off tomorrow - planning a sunbathing session in Hyde Park with the pregnant Finnish one.

Why is it that everytime I do nights the people next door decide to start doing DIY??! Anwyay, tonight is the last one of this set, so there is light at the end of the tunnel... thank god, I can feel myself slowly losing the will to live........!

Take part in a 5-minute online psychology experiment

No time to blog as on lovely night shifts (again!)... save to say that on my day off I AM going to exercise (hehe), and my scrumptious cut-price cosmetics came in the post this morning, and they're FAB! [sorry, having a bit of a girlie-moment]

Monday, July 07, 2003

Feel incredibly inferior, as H said she did 3 HOURS of exercise today! I managed about an hour and a half yesterday, but now I ache, so gave up today.

Had a nice night out tonight... started off in the Elbow Room in Westbourne Grove, and then moved across the road to the Slug and Lettuce. A few glasses of wine later I arrived home via Dominos pizza.... marvellous.

The Beeb have a rather good page of various psychological tests about your morals and your career etc.

Oh and my bird layed (and ate!) yet another egg... as far as I am aware, this has been egg no. 5.... it's only a little bird, how many more eggs can be waiting to escape??

Friday, July 04, 2003

Just tuned in to Channel 4 to watch Big Brother for another night's mindless telly watching, when it's not bloody on! Apparently they found a "suspect package" in the BB studios and the police have been called to investigate! Blimey.

Just done a bit of retail therapy, internet style... found a website that does discount cosmetics, so have treated myself to YSL Touche Eclat and Clarins Beauty Flash Balm for a total of £32.70 with free postage (would cost £42.50 in Boots! bargain!)...hmm what else can I buy?

My pet finch has been laying eggs all last week. The bird however is single. That aside, today she laid another egg. I went to the supermarket, and by the time I came back the egg had gone! I can only assume that she has eaten it! Most bizarre.

Took the day off work today, as I'm feeling a tad under the weather. Sniffly, sore throat and just tired all the time... god I need a holiday!

Find out if you are an irritating colleague. I got the following result, which I think is fairly accurate, even tho I don't work in an office:

"Your most annoying workplace trait is that you let the grinding tedium get you down too much, becoming a bit moody and forgetting that it is exactly the same for everyone else. But apart from that you're ok. Well done."

Also, an interesting story about the makers of Spam the meat-based product wanting to sue the people who call unsolicited e-mails spam.

Too tired to blog..... seriously sleep-deprived... I hate shift work!

Where has the ruddy summer gone? It's cold and rainy... oh but it's Wimbledon fortnight... that explains it.

As a tribute to the fantastic of Man Who Fell Asleep's overheard train comments... here's something I overheard two children saying at the train station this afternoon:
Child A: "What's the next stop after Brondesbury Park?"
Child B: "Holland"

Just got goosebumps listening to the new Radiohead album. They really are going from strength to strength. Definitely a classic album in the making.

Henmania?

Am I the only Briton to find Tim Henman intensely irritating? lacking in personality? apparently not. And they reckon he is more annoying than Mick Hucknall... hmm now that's what I call annoying!
